My friends, I hope you’ve had a good week.
Someone made an offer on the house my ex-wife and I shared, and that has me in a good mood. I can now pay off my credit card and my lawyer and maybe buy some health insurance.
I got more writing done over the last week than I have in a long time, and that’s exciting. Lots of Storm Phase revisions. Lots of Outworld Ranger planning and writing. Lots of secret project planning.
I love being productive, and I’ve been told that when I’m in a good place mentally/emotionally that I spend all day working. 🤔 I suppose that’s accurate. In an ideal world, I would spend ten hours a day writing a thousand words per hour. I’m not anywhere close to that, but I will hit five thousand per day before the year is up.
I also went to the season opener for the UAB Blazers (football) with my good buddy Blake, and we had a blast.
TC Luoma
TC Luoma is on Substack now, and I cannot recommend his content enough if you care about health and fitness advice backed by science. TC’s posts read like something Silky might write, and that’s as high a compliment as I can give.
I read TC’s posts on T-Nation for years. It was the only reason I kept visiting the site. I’m not a bodybuilder, and I figured out what for me are the best routines to build muscle years ago.
I recommend checking out his post on 17 Little-Known Health Tips for Over 40. As someone over forty, I am following as much of this advice as I can. And it’s great advice if you are under 40, too.
In fact, after reading one of TC’s posts, I started drinking coffee. Something that was only possible for me thanks to age and my therapist. The smell of coffee in the morning use to make me nauseated — in a bad way when I was young. I outgrew whatever that was physiologically, but not psychologically until I went through therapy.
TC recommends adding cocoa to coffee, and it’s amazing. If you do, mix it with some coconut milk instead of the cow variety. I don’t know why, but the cocoa dissolves better in coconut milk.
Books
I am enjoying The Prometheus Deception. It wasn’t as hot this week, so I spent more time reading. That may sound weird, but here’s how it works. When I wake up, I go outside to get some light. If it’s weather like we’ve had here the last two months, then I only stay outside for about five minutes. If the weather is nice, then I take a book out with me and read for at least a half hour, often a whole hour.
There is a shady screened-in back porch here, so you would think that would work, but because I share the house with someone else who sits out there regularly, that doesn’t work out so well.
I think I may read Frank Herbert’s Dune next. I bought this gorgeous hardcover edition a year ago. I have only ever experienced the novel in audio format, so this will be a treat.
Next Week
This week will see a new Storm Phase chapter on Wednesday. I don’t have any other posts planned. I am going to be hard at work on new material, primarily for the Outworld Ranger series.
