Just a brief one this week. Because I’m off on a brief vacation this weekend, tagging along with family, heading down to Gulf Shores, Alabama. I never thought I’d have the opportunity to go on a vacation this year, let alone two. Last time, it was thanks to my brother. This time, it is thanks to my sister. So many parallels that it’s almost spooky. And just in time for spooky season!
The other good news for me is that my house sold, so my debts are paid. That is such a huge weight off my shoulders. I feel free.
Reading
This week I finished reading Robert Ludlum’s Prometheus Deception. Overall, I enjoyed the book. I especially liked the first two-thirds. But the twists in the latter third never twisted into directions I wanted the story to go. Alas.
After that, I read various bits of research. I haven’t figured out what book I want to read next. Perhaps it’s time to read Bernard Cornwell again.
What are you reading? Let me know in the comments.
Best wishes,
David Alastair Hayden

In the middle of "Everybody's Fool," the 3rd book in Richard Russo's "North Bath" trilogy. (The movie version of the first book in the trilogy, "Nobody's Fool," with Paul Newman, Jessica Tandy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bruce Willis, and Melanie Griffith was a little-noticed gem. Funny as hell and full of poignancy, and I'm a sucker for poignancy.) Also started reading something called "Forbidden System" by some David Alastair something. Sounds like some fool Brit. I'll let you know if it pans out. (Har har!)
Reading: Shadow’s Stand by Sarah McCarty -romance, no comments so far. Waylander by David Gemmell -fantasy, it’s getting better, it was sleepy at first. Chains of a Dark Goddess by .... do I say mine truly? Is that a thing? No comments so far. Then there’s Listening: Children of Hurin by Tolkien, slog, sorry. Christopher Lee is perfect but it basically a history book with occasional scenes. Dodger by Terry Pratchett. Good, but not as good as his Discworld stuff. Just finished Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King. Good stuff.
