How did it get to be Saturday? How?!
This week flew by, and yet it seemed incredibly long. It’s 1:00 PM for me, so I’ve missed that morning posting window. I’m lucky I realized I had.
The week started rough for me. Low energy, no motivation, and feeling sad for no discernible reason. That, I think, was largely due to returning home to normal life after a wonderful weekend at the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
I absolutely love splashing in waves. As far as the beach goes, I have barely progressed beyond the age of 12. You know that stage where you’re past digging in the sand, but you’re not past diving into each oncoming wave? That’s me. Every time. You can sunbathe and wade around like an adult all you want. Me? I’m going to leap into the waves like a kid. When I’m pushing a hundred years, I hope someone will tie a rope to me, toss me out into the waves, reel me in, and then toss me back out again.
Unfortunately, the red flags were out. So I couldn’t go further than waist deep due to dangerous rip tides. If you’re not familiar with the beach and don’t know what to do if a rip snags you, then I wouldn’t recommend going more than knee deep.
I am grateful for the chance to enjoy the beach again, and for the time I got to spend with Aubrey, Mom, and my sister along the way.
Storm Phase Oops
Week before last, I didn’t release a Storm Phase chapter. I had loaded several weeks worth of chapters in advance. I didn’t realize that I had already gone through those. And then I was late this week because I thought a chapter I was fixing was the next one to go out. But I was wrong. I’ve got to do more work on my organizational systems.
Journaling
I spent a lot of time out on the porch in the sun this week with a notepad on a clipboard. I sketched out lots of ideas, drafted some fiction, and did a lot of planning. Worked on myself, too. Sometimes I have to put pen to paper to sort out the world.
Reading
At the beach I started reading John le Carré’s A Most Wanted Man. The audiobook is on sale for about $5 right now. I haven’t read enough yet to have an opinion.
Best wishes,
David Alastair Hayden
