This Chaturday Morning Post was written and published in the afternoon, because I slept in and had a lazy Saturday morning. So lazy that I forgot about the CMP. This is partly the result of switching my schedule around so that I’m staying up later. Otherwise, sometimes it’s good to be lazy for a bit. The brain and the body sometimes need a rest.
This week both have needed a rest for me.
Last week, while looking at some rental houses, I slipped on a magnolia leaf and fell forward. I caught myself before face-planting, so it didn’t seem like a big deal. I sat in a car for about an hour, and then when I got out of the car, I had a sharp pain in my lower back. I powered through the day, popped some Tylenol, and then Aubrey and I went to the silent disco Halloween party. That was fun, though my moves were very limited.
The next day, I had pain everywhere from my hamstrings up to my shoulder blades on both sides of my back. That pain has ebbed and flowed through the week, and I can’t take anything other than Tylenol because my stomach doesn’t like me. Hopefully it’s just a lot of strained muscles needing rest. I have a friend who is a massage therapist. It may be time to visit.
I did therapy this week, and it was a great session. I’m still recovering from that, too. One of the issues I’m dealing with that is relevant to all of you is the challenges in writing the next Outworld Ranger book.
In some ways it’s easy. I love the characters, and the world building. In some ways it’s challenging. And I think I finally figured out why. When I started the series, I was a very different person in a very different place to where I am now. When we write, whether we want to or not, our internal issues and beliefs get channeled onto the page. I changed and my situation changed a great deal between Shadow Agents and Fallen Souls, and things have changed much more dramatically since.
Knowing and understanding that, I believe I can pick up the pace with writing the next book. It also explains some of the false starts I had to abandon last year. The characters and their situations haven’t changed, only me. It’s just perspective. If that makes any sense.
In other news, I have studied a little acting, done a little reading, and continued the side project with the Storm Phase series.
Halloween Shows & Movies
We watched a number of Halloween movies: Wednesday, The Babysitter and its sequel, Get Out, Army of the Dead, and maybe a few others that I have forgotten. All of those were fantastic except Army of the Dead. I give it five out of five meh.
After Halloween we watched two classics Throw Momma from the Train and Silver Streak. I love Silver Streak, the action, the humor, the pacing, the writing, all of it.
Best wishes,
David Alastair Hayden
