resolutions and office space

I hope everyone’s new year is off to a great start! I wish good health and wellbeing on you all, throughout this year and those to come.

I’ve decided on a few basic resolutions for this year:

1. Spend 30 minutes on language-learning every day. I’m working on Dutch. If you’re on Duolingo, feel free to add me as a friend! My profile name is TypingCat. I already spend 10 minutes a day, and I’ve been doing that for almost 300 days. So this is just a step up.

2. Read at least one book each week. Because I love reading, naturally, but also because the more I read the more I write. Sometimes when I’m writing a lot, I’m tempted not to stare at more words later in the day, but I think that’s a mistake, one I’m going to correct. I didn’t count how many I read last year, and I didn’t keep track. I do know that I read slowly last year. I think writing makes me a slower reader.

3. Move around more. I’m not talking about my daily evening walk after dinner, which a foot injury interrupted in December. Or workouts. I’m just talking about several times every day getting up from the chair to dance around or do some biceps curls or go up and down the stairs just cause.

4. Recommiting to not looking at my phone when I wake up.

Continuing the tour of my small office space, here is the iMac where all my revisions, edits, and business work take place. The Middle Earth tapestry is new. It was a Christmas present from my mom.

Years ago, my mom sat down to watch Fellowship of the Ring with us. At the end of the movie, she was pissed off and said, “I only watched all of that so that I could see them throw the damn ring in the fire.” When I told her that happened at the end of the third movie, she said, “Nope.” 😂

Writing

Writing Outworld Ranger 6: Protocol SLK-138. Revising Chains of a Dark Goddess in my spare time. Storm Phase will return in force once OR6 is complete.

Reading

I’m stilling reading The Shards of Earth by Adrian Tchaikovsky, and I’ve started reading the Burning Wheel roleplaying game.

Watching

We finished the Lord of the Rings trilogy. We watched Dune 2, and it was good. The Dune movies made me want to reread the book. We then started watching the last two seasons of Mrs. Maisel. We tried another show but couldn’t get into it. And I can’t recall the title at the moment.

Listening

Unleash the Archers still, but I did spend an hour sampling some other metal bands.
