I hope you are all doing well. This is going to be a quick one because this week I’ve had a mix of being busy and feeling like crap. And I have a lot of writing and publishing work to do today.
I went out to a restaurant to celebrate Aubrey’s birthday. I had tempura. I can’t eat fried foods at night without suffering consequences. I know this. I swear I know this. It was true when I was in my early twenties, and it’s become even more true in my late forties.
The tempura? It was great. The acid reflux from hell that kept me up all night, not so much. Oddly enough, while I love chicken, mushroom, sweet potato, onion, and zucchini tempura, I hate the broccoli. Maybe because I eat broccoli the way I make it four to six times a week?
One interesting thing of note. I can eat fried gator tail at two different restaurants at any time of day without it bothering me. Y’all, fried gator tail is the best.
The Matrix Movies
I finally watched Matrix Resurrections, the fourth movie in the franchise that came out late 2021. I didn’t want to do that without first going back and watching the first three movies again. So I went about that over the last couple of weeks.
Obviously, the first Matrix movie is a classic. The follow-ups?
The second movie was worse than I remembered, but the third proved better than I had remembered.
And the fourth movie? There was still some goofy stuff, but I thought it was a solid film with good writing and acting. It did have some things I liked a lot, especially how they evolved technological sentience. For those of you have read the Outworld Ranger series, I suppose it’s obvious that I was going to like that.
Overall, I would give the first Matrix 5 stars, the second 2 stars, the third 3 stars, and the fourth 4 stars.
Have a great week,
David Alastair Hayden
